Chapman Fruit Co. Inc., Immokalee, Fl., offered vine-ripe tomatoes for the first time in the fall, plans to have more in the spring and will increase the line next fall, said director Stephen Madonia.

The company also will bring back watermelons after an absence of several years and will offer Athena cantaloupes.

All three items should start in early April.

The company also will offer bell peppers, chili peppers, cucumbers and eggplant in the spring, he said.

Chapman plans to expand operations into Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia soon and is looking to handle sales for prospective growers outside of Florida, Madonia said.
