Chilean produce exporter David Del Curto SA, Santiago, which is celebrating its 65th year in business, has opened a new facility in Requinoa.

The facility, south of Santiago, has a new Aweta processing line for kiwifruit, and the company used the occasion to meet with kiwifruit growers to explore the possibility of increasing production, according to a news release.

David Del Curto is one of 10 grower groups (all based in Italy except David Del Curto) that market the Sweeki brand kiwifruit under the Origine Group umbrella. The group formed in 2015, and the first commercial shipments arrived in Asia earlier this year.

“The new processing line is particularly interesting for Origine Group as it will be functional to the supply of top-quality kiwis to be sold with the Sweeki brand,” Alessandro Zampagna, general manager of the Origine Group, said in the release.

David Del Curto shipped about 1,000 tons of Sweekis to China, South Korea, Taiwan and other markets this season.
