Avocados from Mexico anticipates record-breaking import volumes for Cinco de Mayo celebrations.

In the weeks leading to Cinco de Mayo, the org said it expects to import more than 141 million pounds, with a 13% increase in volume of imported Mexican avocados year-to-date five weeks ahead of Cinco de Mayo when compared to last season, according to a news release.

The promotion group is projecting volumes for the 2018-19 season to reach 2 billion pounds.

Last Cinco de Mayo, retailers sold an average of 702 avocados per store and saw a 45% spike in unit sales, to almost 66 million pieces of fruit, according to the org.

Avocados from Mexico is partnering with Chipotle Mexican Grill on Cinco de Mayo, with a promotion supporting the chain’s chips and guacamole. The co-branded promotion is paired with an offer for free delivery on Cinco de Mayo for anything on Chipotle’s menu.
