The joint venture will own and operate the produce cooler/shipping facility, according to a news release.
Coastline has been a partner-owner of the facility since 2010, with former operating partner American Cooling of Salinas. Muzzi Family Farms started using the facility in April 1018, according to the release. The facility’s cooling systems include vacuum, hydro, forced-air and ice injection equipment. It has 14 loading docks, receiving and holding rooms for wet and dry vegetables, and a solar power system on the roof.
“Having a vertically integrated cooling and shipping operation from the Field Forward gives our companies greater control of the quality and condition of our products and a higher level of customer service,” Larry Cox, CEO and grower-owner of Coastline Family Farms, said in the release.
“Our companies have compatible product lines with very little overlap and we quickly determined that we could offer our customers a broad lineup of products at a single location; thereby reducing the number of stops trucks would need to make in the Salinas region,” Dominic Muzzi, managing partner of Muzzi Family Farms, said in the release.
The C&M Family Cooling general manager is Ron Burnett, formerly with Central Coast Cooling, Salinas, who has 40 years of experience in cooling facilities.
“This is an exciting opportunity to operate a cooler that is vertically integrated with the two quality-oriented owners,” Burnett said in the release.
