The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued two guidance documents to help food facilities meet their registration requirements.
The FDA said the requirement to register food facilities is part of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. The agency said one of the documents helps managers of food facilities understand the registration requirements.
The Food Safety Modernization Act added new registration provisions to existing regulations, and in 2016 FDA issued a final rule to reflect these changes. The new guidance includes questions and answers on the registration final rule, according to the FDA.
FDA also released a supplemental draft guidance that outlines the agency’s thinking about the registration requirements in situations in which multiple entities are involved in the use of shared physical space.
The 2018 biennial registration renewal period begins Oct. 1 and concludes Dec. 31, the FDA said.
