FDA raises special inspection fees for 2015The Food and Drug Administration plans to raise fees for domestic and foreign facility reinspections, recall orders and importer reinspections.

According to the notice in the Federal Register, from Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2015, rates will be $202 per hour of direct work, excluding inspection travel costs. That is up about 4.3% from fiscal year 2013, according to the FDA.

The fees are applicable when the FDA must determine if corrective actions have been taken to remedy previously identified food safety issues.

When inspectors must travel for inspections, the fees are set at $217 per hour, according to the FDA. For foreign travel, charges will be $305 per hour, according to the agency.

Domestic inspections typically take about 28 hours of paid work by the FDA, while foreign inspections typically require about 120 hours of paid work.
