For the seventh year, FirstFruits Farms is growing and selling the Sweetie apple.

Originally developed in New Zealand, the Sweetie apple has attributes from gala’s sugars and the texture of the braeburn apple, according to a news release.

“The Sweetie apples have incredible flavor,” Chuck Zeutenhorst, general manager of FirstFruits Marketing, said in the release. “Our season is short but it’s an extraordinary variety.”

The apple’s sweet flavor and firm texture makes it suitable for snacking and cooking, according to the release.

Sweetie apple season is set to begin this week and apples will be available in select retailers through October.
