FirstFruits Marketing, Yakima, Wash., has been sponsoring the Take a Bite out of Hunger campaign for nine years, donating about two million pounds of apples to food banks across the country.

This year, the company donated more than 269,000 pounds of fresh apples, in participating retailers’ names to food banks in their communities, according to a news release.

“I am proud of the continued commitment of our retailer partners and their support for the Take a Bite Out of Hunger program observing nearly a decade of dedication to supporting those in need,” Chuck Zeutenhorst, general manager of FirstFruits Marketing, said in the release. “We are proud to have the opportunity to help make a difference and give back in their local communities.”

This year’s participating retailers included:

  • AG New England;
  • Baron’s Market;
  • Bashas;
  • Charlie’s Produce;
  • Dave’s Marketplace;
  • Frazier Farms;
  • H-E-B;
  • OK Produce;
  • Raley’s;
  • Roundy’s;
  • Sobeys;
  • Stater Bros.; and
  • United Supermarkets.
