FF Cooling Solutions, a brand of France-based Fromfroid Co., is seeking to expand distribution and use of its fast-cooling systems in the U.S. fresh produce industry.

Alain Garcia, sales engineer for FF Cooling Solutions, said the cooling cell technology is already used in the U.S. and other countries for yogurt and cheese, and is used in Europe in the fresh produce sector with berries.

The patented solutions (fast cooling cells and tunnels) are engineered for: 

  • Fast cooling;
  • Easy-to-use interface;
  • High flexibility in pallet dimensions;
  • Low energy consumption;
  • More consistent temperatures throughout the pallet;
  • Installed in many levels to optimize floor area; and 
  • A standardized production.

Garcia thinks that the cooling cell technology could be useful to growers in North America and South America for products like berries, cucumbers and tomatoes.

The cooling cell technology is mobile and can be used in a container at the farm level for pre-cooling before shipping to the warehouse. 

Preserving the harvest quality as soon as possible is critical for the quality and shelf life of fruits and vegetables, he said. 

“Where we are winning is in terms of quality and (reducing) produce waste,” he said. 

FF Cooling System does a good job of cooling uniformly throughout the pallet compared to other systems, he said.
