“Nobody else on the market is doing habanero guacamole and everybody is going crazy about this,” Mark Schweihs, vice president of U.S. sales for Freshcourt, said at the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit.
The habanero guacamole joins the company’s classic, poblano and jalapeno flavors of retail packs, he said.
Meanwhile, he said the avocado smoothie product - to be formally introduced later this year - is expected to come in the flavors of avocado mango, avocado kiwi and avocado coconut-berries.
The smoothie product could be featured in the frozen or refrigerated areas of the retail store, Schweihs said. Because the variable ripeness and the pit of the avocado make the fruit problematic for smoothie shops, he said the company’s frozen retail pack fills a market need.
“We think it’s going to be a big hit,” he said.
The company markets fresh, frozen and whole fresh avocados and its blended processed packs range from 2-ounce cups to 20-pound bags for industrial uses such as dressing manufacturers. The popularity of the avocado now makes it an ingredient in nearly every aisle of the grocery store, Schweihs said - much different compared to some years ago when stores only offered whole fresh avocados and one plain guacamole pack.
