Giorgi Cos. Inc., parent of mushroom grower-shipper Giorgio Fresh, has invested $1 million in plant-based dips company The Honest Stand.

The company’s dips are gluten- and dairy-free, and The Honest Stand has received regional and national awards, including the 2018 West NEXTY award for Best New Dairy/Meat Alternative, according to a news release.

Brian Loiseau, senior vice president of sales, business development and R&D at the Giorgi Cos.’ foods division, said The Honest Stand founders Alexandra Carone and Jeremy Day have the “discipline, drive and commitment” to develop their products into a national brand.

“As a 90-year-old company in the agricultural and retail space, we are very clear on the consumer trends that are driving and transforming grocery,” Loiseau said in the release. “Alex and Jeremy are passionate and talented young entrepreneurs who have tremendous energy and a strong sense of purpose.”

Giorgio has also seen success in the plant-based snack category, with its Savory Wild Portabella Jerky.

The Honest Stand plans to use the funding to provide working capital and sales and marketing resources to support the growing demand for the products, according to the release.
