Glennville, Ga.-based G&R Farms has named Michael Sutton as the company’s operations manager.
Sutton has held positions with Georgia’s Federal State Inspection Service in a long tenure with the agency, according to a news release. He earned certification as a produce inspector and auditor by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, according to the release. Sutton also served as a district supervisor with the department, responsible for personnel recruitment, training, performance and scheduling. The release said Sutton also conducted numerous audits on growing and packing facilities around the state.
“Michael is certified by the USDA to inspect any vegetable or fruit that is grown anywhere in the world,” Walt Dasher, co-owner of G&R Farms, said in the release. “He has an incredible amount of experience in the produce field and, just as important, he has managed hundreds of employees while providing training and oversight.”
Dasher said Sutton will be a big asset to the G&R management team to help the company maximize efficiency and balance objectives to ensure quality control and food safety are top priorities.
“We are a year-round supplier of sweet onions so when Vidalia’s are not in season, we are shipping Peruvian and Mexican onions,” Dasher said. “Michael’s background as an unrestricted and licensed USDA inspector will ensure that our onions meet the highest standards in the onion industry.”
Sutton joined G&R Farms as temporary operations manager earlier this year after working for Georgia’s Federal State Inspection Service for nearly 40 years, according to the release.
