Avocado grower-shipper GreenFruit Avocado, Newport Beach, Calif., is introducing new cartons at the Produce Marketing Association’s Foodservice Conference and Expo.

The company will showcase the 24-count one-layer outer box, which contains 12 small boxes inside, each one with two size 48 hass avocados. Foodservice distributors can reduce waste and fulfill orders by twos instead of a bulk carton.

"These boxes represent a more sustainable solution compared to plastic bags since they’re 100% recyclable and provide better protection in transit and storage — which reduces shrink," Dan Acevedo, GreenFruit’s business development director, said in a news release. "We’ve tested these boxes for the past year with a customer in New York and have seen excellent results with product quality, distribution versatility and the efficiency of the design.

“We’re excited to offer them now to all of our customers — foodservice and retail, branded or privately labeled."

The boxes are ventilated and protect the fruit during shipping, and include a stage-of-ripeness guide. Stock-keeping units for each 2-count box promote traceability, according to the release.

The conference is July 26-27 in Monterey, Calif., with the expo on the second day. GreenFruit Avocados will be at booth No. 1304.
