The California Leafy Greens Marketing Agreement, Sacramento, has hired Greg Komar as technical director.

Komar, most recently the director of corporate food safety and product quality at Mann Packing, has more than 20 years of experience in technical aspects of production agriculture, many of them in food safety. He was director of food safety at Growers Express, technical manager at NSF Davis Fresh and senior quality assurance director at Earthbound Farm.

At the California LGMA, he succeeds Mike Villaneva, the technical director how is retiring in May after 10 years with the group, according to a news release. Komar reports to LGMA CEO Scott Horsfall.

He has worked in areas that include lab analysis, applied research and seed breeding, according to the release. At NSF Agriculture and SCS Global Services, Komar helped manage audit programs.

Komar will help develop and deliver training programs and work with the industry and food safety community to ensure LGMA’s on-farm practices are understood and implemented, according to the release.

“The challenge was not only finding a qualified and knowledgeable candidate, but a candidate who can relate to all of LGMA’s different stakeholder groups,” Horsfall said in the release. “Greg is an excellent fit for the organization’s needs and we are confident he will excel in his new role with the LGMA.”
