GS1 US, Ewing, N.J., has hired Kraig Adams to be its vice president of blockchain, a new role at the company.

Adams has been at Coca-Cola North America for more than 25 years, most recently as vice president of national foodservice distribution. He was also vice president of customer solutions and director of collaborative customer capabilities, according to a news release.

At GS1 US, Adams will strengthen partnership exploring blockchain and other distributed ledger technology, according to the release, across multiple industries, including retail and foodservice. He joins GS1 US a year after the launch of the GS1 US Blockchain Discussion Group, designed to identify challenges facing implementation of the technology and opportunities to leverage GS1 US Standards with blockchain.

“As a transformative technology that could potentially improve trading partner relationships and business processes, blockchain has become top-of-mind for GS1 US members,” Siobhan O’Bara, senior vice president of community engagement for GS1 US, said in the release.

At Coca-Cola, he was involved in data synchronization, product identification and barcode technology, according to the release.

Adams was on the Executive Leadership Committee for forming GS1 US foodservice standards in 2018-19.
