Vic Smith, the CEO of JV Smith Cos., has joined the board of directors of Kenmore, Wash.-based iFoodDecisionSciences (iFoodDS), a software company specializing in food safety.

Smith is involved in numerous produce industry associations, and is on the boards of Western Growers, Center for Produce Safety and Brighter Bites. He was recognized as an industry leaders in the 2018 edition of The Packer 25.

“Vic is a recognized leader and innovator in the fresh vegetable industry,” iFoodDS CEO Diane Wetherington said in a news release. “Whether it is in the area of food safety, sustainability or protecting farm workers, Vic has consistently shown his leadership by adopting programs that benefit consumers, the environment and farm workers.”

Smith said he’ll bring a grower’s perspective on challenges, and how technology can help overcome them.

“Having firsthand experience with iFoodDS products, I have seen how streamlining data through their unique software systems has improved our farming operation, harvesting practices and enhanced our traceback systems too,” Smith said in the release.
