Index Fresh, Riverside, Calif., has found that meeting with customers in an avocado grove has a completely different vibe than in a conference room.

The company has launched Meeting in the Grove, a program that creates a comfortable starting point for virtual meetings in the time of COVID-19, according to a news release.

“We can talk about new business opportunities, market trends or just simply how they’re doing because our customers are not just clients, they’re friends,” John Dmytriw, Index Fresh's senior business specialist, said in the release. He added that the program is Index Fresh’s twist on virtual meetings, a relaxed experience in a low-pressure environment.

The Meeting in the Grove concept often consists of videos and photos from the company’s field department. Before the COVID-19, it was often difficult for people to find time to take a tour. Now they can digitally, and Dmytriw said in the release that it allows the sales team to provide more in-depth information and personalized advice to customers.

Dmytriw said in the release that the remainder of the season will be a "springboard for a successful 2021."

"Avocados still continue to perform at an extremely high level," he said in the release. "Retail and foodservice and wholesale are doing everything they possibly can to market in creative ways. The produce industry as a whole has proven its extraordinary resiliency."
