With peak volumes available to support a full slate of marketing plans during June — California Avocado Month — retailers are encouraged to take advantage of the demand for the fruit.
“Many retailers already have plans in place for exciting California Avocado Month promotions, including programs with special displays, demos and wellness components,” Jan DeLyser, California Avocado Commission vice president of marketing, said in a news release. “CAC representatives are working closely with customers who merchandise California avocados, creating customized programs for the summer season.
The California Avocado Commission has customized retail support along with other plans, including a sponsorship of Los Angeles’ historic Grand Central Market the Pine Street Market in Portland, Ore. Through June, some market vendors will offer unique California avocado dishes, according to the release.
Social media and other digital content will promote the partnership and dishes offered at the venues.
In late May, the commission brought bloggers and media to the venues to learn about California avocados from chefs and commission board members Rick Shade and Jessica Hunter, according to the release. Media sampled the dishes.
The commission has also partnered with online meal kit company Chefd.com, which is offering four options for consumers:
- California Avocado Grilled Pizza with Watercress Salad;
- California Fish Tacos with Grilled Avocado and Pico de Gallo;
- California Roll with Spicy Garlic Edamame; and
- Easy California Eggs Benedict with Citrus Salad
Chef’d will begin promoting the avocado meal kits starting June 14 at Chef’d.com, in e-mails, blogs and social media, according to the release.
Chefs Josiah Citrin of Melisse in Santa Monica and Charcoal Venice, and Kevin Meehan of Kali, and others created recipes for California Avocado Month, according to the release. Those recipes will also be promoted online and through public relations activities.
