Klondike Rose celebrates 10th anniversaryAugust marks the 10th anniversary of Potandon Produce LLC introducing U.S. retailers and consumers to Klondike Rose potatoes.

The red-skinned, yellow-fleshed variety was developed in North America by Potandon"s Canadian partner, Earthfresh Foods, according to a news release. German growers initially developed the seed in the early 1990s.

Klondike Rose celebrates 10th anniversaryBy the time the Klondike Rose was introduced in the U.S. in 2002, Potandon, Idaho Falls, Idaho, had several other varieties in the works. The company quickly introduced Klondike Goldust, a smooth-skinned yellow potato, also with a buttery interior.

Potandon soon expanded growing operations to include Washington and Arizona in addition to Idaho and Canada.

The Klondike Gourmet line followed, offering consumers 24-ounce packages of mini and petite potatoes in various colors and flavors.

Potandon also has two convenience lines of fresh potatoes under the Klondike brand a refrigerated line of steamers in sauce and shelf-stable versions of Klondike Rose and Goldust potatoes, dubbed Klondike Express, in microwaveable steamer bags.
