Macro Plastics has a new bulk shipping bin for produce that is designed to maximize the usable space in refrigerated containers.
The injection-molded Hybrid 44P shipping bins can be disassembled in less than 30 seconds, which can boost return ratios to 5 to 1, according to a news release from the Fairfield, Calif., company. Macro Plastics plans full production of the new bins beginning in July.
Hugo Ramos, business development manager, said in the release that the new bins are ultra-lightweight and have a unique design available with options for solid or vented sides. The bases of the bins are 48-by-44 inches. The design allows for 2-way or 4-way forklift entry, according to the release.
"The ‘Shipper Bin" can be easily assembled and used for the storage or shipping of produce in refrigerated containers," Ramos said in the release. "Once empty and ready for return shipment, the pieces can be disassembled in about 30 seconds and then nested and stacked to maximize shipping efficiencies in a dry container."
Similar to the company"s MacroBins, the new shipping bins are designed to reduce the damage produce can incur during shipping, according to the release. The design allows for a "bruise buffer zone" between stacks to product produce in adjacent bins. The new bins also have an interlocking feature to keep stacks straight, according to the release.
In February the new bins made the Top 10 list of innovative agricultural products at the World Ag Expo, according to the release.
