Employees of Market Fresh Produce LLC, Springfield, Mo., were in a giving spirit this Christmas.
At the company’s Christmas party, director of sourcing Joel Laughlin presented Market Fresh CEO Steve Phipps $1,000 that employees had donated, to add to the Tyler Phipps Memorial Fund, according to a news release.
Tyler Phipps, Steve Phipps’ son, died in 2015 at the age of 30, and the company established the memorial fund that year for a scholarship in Tyler’s name.
Jessie Gunn, Market Fresh director of marketing, said the fund has received more than $96,000 since it was established, awarding $35,000 in scholarships in three years.
Integrity, dedication, teamwork and a desire to pursue a produce career are considered when naming scholarship recipients, according to the release.
