Maryland’s Best has a strong social media presence with Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and one of its YouTube videos promoting Maryland watermelons has been viewed 3.9 million times, said Mark Powell, chief of agriculture and seafood marketing.

Most videos earn a few thousand viewers, he said.

“We use them to introduce consumers to farmers and tell the stories,” Powell said. The group also works with Maryland Public Television on its “Maryland Farm & Harvest” program. The 10 episode, 30-minute weekly documentary is the TV station’s most popular original program and is broadcast to audiences across Maryland and the District of Columbia, he said.
