Mike Preacher, the marketing director for Domex Superfresh Growers, Yakima Wash., is the new chairman of the U.S. Apple Association’s board of directors.

Preacher, who has been an officer on the apple association’s board for three years, has also been chairman of its government affairs committee. His one-year term as the head of the board of directors began at the organization’s virtual conference, Aug. 20-21.

“Mike’s hands-on commitment to the apple industry and USApple has been a tremendous asset to the organization and can only grow during his leadership as board chair,” Jim Bair, president and CEO, said in a news release. “Mike is always the first to lend his support to USApple efforts, whether it’s policy issues, communications initiatives or simply as the staff’s most ardent cheerleader.

“His go-get ‘em attitude is infectious and, I expect, will breathe a renewed energy into the organization,” Bair said in the release.

Preacher succeeds Jeff Colombini, president of Lodi Farming, Stockton, Calif.

The association’s 2020-21 elected board officers are:

  • Chris Alpers, RedPath Orchards, Lake Leelanau, Mich., vice chairman;
  • Brenda Briggs, Rice Fruit Co., Gardners, Pa., secretary; and
  • Craig Hinkle, Knouse Foods Cooperative, Peach Glen, Pa., treasurer.
