Mission Produce avocados will be sold online in China.

Oxnard, Calif.-based Mission and its Chinese distributor, Lantao International, are partnering with Chinese internet giant JD.com to market Mission fruit online, according to a news release.

JD.com is China's largest internet company by revenue.

Under the deal, Mission avocados will be sold on JD.com's website and mobile app and through portals on Tencent's WeChat and Mobile QQ, two of China's most popular social messaging platforms.

"By leveraging JD.com's unparalleled nationwide logistics network, we are able to deliver fresh avocados to its 188 million customers throughout China very quickly," Robb Bertels, Mission's vice president of marketing, said in the release. "Partnering with the leading company in China's online premium produce sector was an easy decision for us."

More than 70% of all avocados in the Chinese market are distributed by Lantao, which began importing avocados from Mission in 2013.

In July, Lantao announced that Mission will build China's first avocado ripening center in Shanghai.
