Oxnard, Calif.-based Mission Produce is focusing on its partnership with Hazel Technologies Inc., and its Avolast shelf-life extension product at the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit expo.

“Hazel Technologies designed this solution for the avocado supply chain to ensure an unprecedented avocado quality extension and an unparalleled consumer eating experience,” Aidan Mouat, CEO of Hazel Technologies, said in the release.

Mission announced its adoption of Avolast in January. Before that, the company’s research and development team extensively tested Avolast throughout the supply chain. The product is a quarter-sized, biodegradable packaging insert that slows down avocado ripening by conditioning the atmosphere in the box to slow the fruit’s respiration rate, according to Mouat.

“By integrating Avolast into our business, customers across the world will notice an increase in the shelf-life and quality of their avocados,” Patrick Cortes, senior director of business development for Mission Produce, said in the release.

Mission Produce is at expo booth No. 2075.
