Mucci Farms, Kingsville, Ontario, has acquired a controlling interest in another Canadian greenhouse grower, Orangeline Farms, Leamington, Ontario, and plans more expansion in the U.S. and Canada.

The deal includes Orangeline’s existing 32-acre greenhouse and a warehouse, along with 100 acres for expansion, according to a news release.

Mucci Farms plans to continue packing under Orangeline’s Zing! Healthy Foods brand.

“It's an exciting time for the company as we continue our aggressive expansion plans to increase our local and regional production,” CEO Bert Mucci, said in the release. “… Consumers are demanding more local production, and we're listening.  We also have plans in place to build on the additional land that was received as part of the agreement."

The Kniaziew family established Orangeline Farms in 2000, primarily known for Zing! brand peppers, which include the “Lunchbox Peppers,” “Sweet Chef Sampler,” and “Spicy Chef Sampler” lines of mini peppers in pouches.

“In searching for growth opportunities for both Orangeline's staff and our ever-loyal customers, the chance to partner with a world-class organization like Mucci Farms was an easy decision to make,” founder Duffy Kniaziew said in the release.

“Duffy and his team have done a great job with the brand, and it's familiar in our region, so we're not looking to make any dramatic changes at the moment,” Emily Murracas, director of marketing, said in the release.

Ohio expansion

Mucci Farms harvested vegetables from the first phase (24 acres) of a planned 60-acre operation in Huron, Ohio, a year ago, and announced plans to increase that to a total of 75 acres. The company acquired additional land adjacent to the Huron site, according to the release.

“Phase two construction is already underway,” CEO Bert Mucci, said in the release.  “The Ohio program has gotten off to a great start and we're looking forward to growing our presence in the community and the regional market.”
