The Allen Lund Co., La Cañada Flintridge, Calif., on Dec. 16 participated in Navidad en el Barrio for its 13th consecutive year.
It's the company’s third year working with the Society of St. Vincent in Los Angeles, according to a news release.
The program began in 1972, established by former National Football League kicker Danny Villanueva, and provides Christmas dinners to families in Southern California. This year’s event served more than 750 families at the Society of St. Vincent and an overall total of 15,000 families, according to the release. Two Catholic Charities food banks were also restocked.
“It is our pleasure to serve the community and I am so proud of the ALC team, family and friends for the work they did this past Saturday,” Allen Lund Co. vice president Kenny Lund said in the release.
The Allen Lund Co. donated the logistics and transportation of the donations to a warehouse in Los Angeles and from there to agencies throughout Southern California for distribution.
Vendors who donated fresh produce and contributed to the success of this year’s Navidad en el Barrio include Dayka & Hackett, Grimmway Farms, Rainier Fruit Co. and Wada Farms, according to the release. Coca-Cola, Snak King, Apffels and Penguin Natural Food also made donations.
