Ocean Mist Farms is expanding its organic program significantly through a new partnership.

Castroville, Calif.-based Ocean Mist has inked a deal with Watsonville, Calif.-based Lakeside Organic Gardens, according to an Ocean Mist news release.

Under the deal, Ocean Mist will grow organic artichokes for Lakeside Organic Gardens and Lakeside Organic Gardenswill grow organic beets, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, cilantro, fennel, iceberg lettuce, kale, leeks, parsley, red leaf, green leaf, romaine and spinach for Ocean Mist.

Ocean Mist will market the Lakeside Organic Gardens products under the Ocean Mist Organic label and the artichokes will be sold under the Lakeside Organic Gardens label.

"The purpose of the strategic alliance between the two companies is to meet the increasing shopper demand for organic produce," Ocean Mist"s CEO Ed Boutonnet said in the release. "It"s important to the future of our business that we respond to the changes in the marketplace and meet the needs of our end consumer adding organic produce to our product list is part of meeting that need."

Lakeside Organic Gardens owner Dick Peixoto said the partnership will open access to organic products for both companies.

"At Lakeside Organic Gardens, we"re excited to offer our customers organic artichokes year-round," he said in the release. "We appreciate the commitment Ocean Mist has made to grow the best quality organic artichokes."

Ocean Mist and Lakeside Organic Gardensshould begin shipping each other"s product in July.
