SUN VALLEY, Idaho — Don Odiorne joined the Idaho Potato Commission in 1989 and will retire at the end of this year.
Frank Muir, president and CEO of the Idaho Potato Commission, on Aug. 30 thanked Odiorne, the commission’s vice president of foodservice, for his contributions to the commission.
“I would like to express my personal appreciation for Don, for what you’ve meant to this industry and to me personally,” said Muir, who displayed photos from Odiorne’s career on the screen during a session at the Idaho Growers Shippers Association’s annual meeting.
The crowd gave Odiorne a standing ovation.
Odiorne said his wife retired a few years ago and has been waiting for him to follow suit.
“She has been giving me a bad time about it, that I need to kick back,” he joked.
Between home projects and his love of classic car events, he said he will keep busy in retirement.
Odiorne said he hopes to continue his long-running Dr. Potato blog on the Idaho Potato Commission website. The blog has more than 700 posts and generates big traffic for the site.
