One Banana employees joined locals to reforest a La Gomera Escuintla, Guatemala, farm for conservation purposes.
This reforestation is part of One Banana's adaptation program to climate change and supports the activities conducted by the Institute on Climate Change in the framework of the Comprehensive Basin Management program, according to a news release.
"Forests are critically important for life to exist on this planet and we believe that we can make a difference in our communities by taking steps to educate and actively making a difference," said Bernhard Roehrs, corporate communications director for One Banana, in the release.
One Banana is also educating employees and community members through a course called "Community Adaptation to Climate Change."
The course was presented through a partnership with the Asociación del Trifinio Suroccidente, the Association of Independent Banana Producers and the Institute of Climate Change. The course covered basin management and adapting to climate change and risk disaster management and included lectures, field visits and practical activities, according to the release.
