Onions 52 has joined the Produce Marketing Association’s Gold Circle Campaign for Food Safety to emphasize a commitment to food safety.

Onions 52 joins more than 350 other fresh produce suppliers and buyers in the initiative, according to a news release.

PMA founded the Gold Circle Campaign to bring awareness to the industry’s challenge of increasing production while being confident in the safety of fresh produce, according to the release.

The campaign funds research and education for organizations such as the Center for Produce Safety at the University of California, Davis, according to the release.

“We wanted to make a difference and take a leadership role within the industry,” Falon Brawley, director of marketing and business development at Onions 52, said in the release. “Research and continuing education are indispensable measures for recall-prevention throughout the produce supply-chain. Initiating comprehensive, prevention-based controls to prevent or significantly minimize the likelihood of food safety issues arising is essential in our industry.”
