Oregon Berry Packing Co., Hillsboro, has built a new packing and storage facility, said Trevor Abell, international sales director.
The 55,000 square feet of packing and cooling space should be up and running by June 20.
New equipment will enable the company to double its packing capacity for domestic and export customers, Abell said.
But he added that quality will remain a stronger focus than volume, especially for the company’s export program, where berries often must travel thousands of miles to reach their destination.
Members of the firm traveled the world researching the best equipment available, Abell said.
“We’re trying out some new technologies in the blueberry sorting world.”
