The contest promotes the bureau’s USA Pears brand and plays up awareness of the variety of pears, with point-of-sale signs, recipes and training, according to a news release. The contest categories recognize the largest increase in sales (year-over-year), and best pear displays using USA Pears POS materials. The contests are open to all Albert’s Fresh Produce customers.
The first contest winners were Imperfect Produce, San Antonio, and Northbound Organics, Minneapolis, for sales increases, and Ever’mans Market, Pensacola, Fla., and Greens Natural Market, Mt. Kisco, N.Y., for displays.
The second Pear-a-Palooza runs Dec. 30 through Jan. 26, In both categories, winners receive $500, and second-place earns $250.
