The Peruvian Asparagus Importers Association is making available its 2018-19 category trends report on asparagus.
“We create and distribute the report annually to motivate retailers to sell more asparagus,” Priscilla Lleras-Bush, coordinator of the PAIA, said in a news release. She said the report includes statistical information and insight that enables retailers to promote asparagus on a year-round basis.
U.S. imports of Peruvian asparagus have increased by about 13% in the last year, according to the category trends report.
Trade statistics show the U.S. imported more than 567 million pounds of fresh-market asparagus in 2018, with about 200 million pounds from Peru.
“Imported volumes of fresh asparagus continue to climb and thereby providing the U.S. consumer households with a complete vegetable that delivers nutrition, convenience, taste and quality as the perfect meal solution,” Lleras-Bush said in the release.
The plan is available by request from any member of the Peruvian Asparagus Importer’s Association or by contacting its coordinator Priscilla Lleras-Bush at [email protected]
The association anticipates increasing consumption and demand for fresh asparagus in 2019-20, according to the release.
