PlantTape USA has hired Lance Portman as vice president of engineering.
Portman brings 30 years of experience from outside agriculture, according to a news release.
His previous roles include technical advisor and director of research and engineering on coiled tubing at BJ Services Co.; vice president of coiled tubing and cementing and director of technology at Baker Hughes Inc.; and vice president of marketing at Cormorant Engineering LLC.
“We are very excited to welcome Lance to our PlantTape team and to have his guidance to further develop our revolutionary PlantTape system,” Brian Antle, president of PlantTape USA, said in the release. “His proven track record of taking out-of-the-box ideas and bringing them to commercialization is well documented and we look forward to furthering our business with Lance as a key player on our team.”
The company also expects to benefit from Portman having worked all over the world, including in Canada, Indonesia and Singapore.
“He brings an international perspective to business models at a time when global demand is increasing rapidly, and his leadership will allow him to work with our two factories in the U.S. and Spain to meet these growing needs,” Antle said in the release.
Salinas, Calif.-based Tanimura & Antle acquired PlantTape USA in 2014 and uses the system to plant broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, celery, lettuces, onions and tomatoes.
