The Produce Marketing Association is featuring former astronaut Jose Hernandez at a Fresh Connections: Mexico event.
The event, May 29-30 in Guadalajara, is in its 12th year, according to PMA. It brings U.S., Canadian and Mexican supermarket retailers together with Mexican produce growers, according to a news release. An expo and networking opportunities are on the agenda.
Hernandez, who grew up in the U.S. and Mexico, was accepted into NASA’s astronaut candidate class in 2004. He was a mission specialist in 2009 on the STS-128 mission on Space Shuttle Discovery, according to the release. He is an advisor to the Mexican Space Agency. His May 29 speech is titled “The Star Harvester.”
Also on May 29, four retailers will discuss trends and success tips on “The New Retail World is Here” panel. The next day, a session will “explore political and governmental shifts and how they impact the fruit and vegetable supply chain,” according to the release.
