The Produce Marketing Association has hired Anouk Sijmonsma as regional vice president for Asia, Africa, Europe and Australia/New Zealand.

Sijmonsma, who is based in Antwerp, Belgium, will work with PMA headquarters in those countries, as well as volunteer members, according to a release. She reports to Richard Owen, recently promoted to PMA vice president of global membership & engagement. She is scheduled to start Aug. 1.

­­“Anouk’s wealth of knowledge and extensive connections in these regions can help us more deeply connect the global produce and floral communities, and deliver on our vision to grow a healthier world,” PMA CEO Cathy Burns said in the release. “Having witnessed Anouk’s leadership and global insights in action the past few years, I am very excited to welcome her to our staff family.”

Sijmonsma was managing editor of online newsletter FreshPlaza, and before that was in sales and market development for KX Food, a subsidiary of vegetable producer-exporter conglomerate Angiu Ming Feng Co. of China. Her career began as an associate in London for an international consulting firm, according to the release.
