Several U.S. produce firms have been awarded multi-million dollar government contracts to provide fresh fruits and vegetables to military bases and schools.

All contracts are with the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support in Philadelphia. In notices issued this summer, the firms are:

  • Las Vegas-based Get Fresh Sales Inc. has been awarded a maximum $37.5 million contract to deliver fresh fruits and vegetables to Nevada military bases and schools. According to an Aug. 16 notice, the contract will extend from 2018 to April 1 of 2023. 
  • Crook Brothers, Beckley, W.Va., has been awarded a maximum $42 million contract to supply fresh fruit and vegetables to the West Virginia National Guard and U.S. Department of Agriculture schools. The company was awarded a four-year contract with one 12-month tier and two 18-month tiers, according to a recent notice from the Department of Defense. The contract extends from 2018 to 2022, according to the notice.
  • Naples, Fla.-based Oakes Farms Food & Distribution Services LLC has been awarded a maximum $46.875 million contract to supply fresh fruit and vegetables to military bases and schools in Florida. Competing with three other firms, Oakes won the competitive contract, according to a recent notice from the Department of Defense. The contract runs from 2018 to July 19, 2023, according to the notice.
  • Keany Produce Co., Landover, Md., was awarded a maximum $40.5 million contract to deliver fresh fruits and vegetables to military bases and U.S. Department of Agriculture schools. Competing with two other firms, Keany Produce won the competitive bid. The contract runs for 48-months, with two 24-month tier periods. The company will supply customers in Maryland, Delaware and Washington District of Columbia.
  • Muir Copper Canyon Farms, Salt Lake City, has been awarded a maximum $47.5 million contract for supplying fresh fruits and vegetables. The contract is for 48-months, with no option periods. Winning the bid against two other companies, Muir Copper Canyon Farms will supply military and school customers in Utah through June 2022.
