Two fresh produce firms were recently awarded multi-million dollar contracts by the Defense Department to provide fresh fruits and vegetables to schools and military bases.
In early October, New Brighton, Minn.-based H. Brooks and Co. LLC, was awarded a $67.5 million
contract with the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support for fresh fruit and vegetables, beating out one other firm for the business, according to a news release. The 54-month base contract has an April 2023 completion date and serves schools and tribes in Minnesota, according to the release.
In September, San Diego, Calif.-based Coast Citrus Distributors was awarded a maximum $456 million contract to supply fresh fruits and vegetables, beating out three other firms for the contract, according to a news release.
The five-year contract will serve the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and schools in California.
