Citrus from Chile was on hand for the 26th annual Susan G. Komen Orange County Race for the Cure, handing out more than 1,000 pounds of mandarins to runners.

The event raises funds for local breast health initiatives, education and research. The Chilean Citrus Committee was a sponsor for Northgate Gonzales Markets and its Viva La Salud/Health and Wellness program, according to a news release.

The committee and Northgate volunteers also handed out flyers with information and récipes for Chilean citrus. The event was Oct. 4.

Volumes of mandarins from Chile to the U.S. are expected to reach nearly 74,000 tons this season, according to the reléase, which is a 38% increase over the 2016 season, and 10% more than the original season estimates.
