Irwindale, Calif.-based Ready Pac Foods Inc. has recalled nearly 60,000 pounds of Puro Picante Blazin' Hot chicken salads with use-by dates of Jan. 31-March 4.
Ready Pac initiated the recall after the supplier of cheese used in the salads, Sargento Foods Inc., informed Ready Pac on Feb. 21 that the cheese was subject to an expanded recall due to possible listeria contamination.
Sargento had recalled that cheese product after supplier Deutsch Kase Haus LLC, Middlebury, Ind., notified Sargento that it could be contaminated.
Sargento had recalled other cheese products from Deutsch Kase Haus Feb. 10. Sargento expanded that recall Feb. 17 to include products that were packaged on the same lines as those recalled earlier, according to a statement on Sargento's website.
Sargento has since ended its relationship with Deutsch Kase Haus.
Other produce companies, including Salinas, Calif.-based Taylor Farms and Conroe, Texas-based Country Fresh, have also recently recalled products because they contained Sargento cheeses subject to recall.
The packages of the affected Ready Pac chicken salad have the number P-27497, P-32081 or P-18502B inside the USDA mark of inspection.
