Hartsville, S.C.-based Sonoco Corp. has acquired three other packaging companies in the past 18 months, said Andy Laible, marketing manager.
Since the beginning of 2017, Sonoco has acquired Peninsula Packaging, Highland Packaging Solutions and Clear Lam Packaging.
“Sonoco can now offer the industry’s broadest array of packaging options tailored to the needs of the fast-growing produce market — with several manufacturing locations in North America,” Laible said.
“The addition of those successful organizations to the Sonoco family greatly expanded what we can bring to produce brands: Our material science expertise and packaging variety, combined with our focus on innovation based on consumer insights, helps us develop new packaging options for our customers that address the demands of today’s busy, health-conscious consumers.”
Sonoco’s product portfolio includes options ranging from flexible pouches and peel-reseal lidding, to rigid plastic trays, tubs and hinged containers, Laible said.
For Clear Lam, the acquisition was little more than a matter of “collaboration of technologies,” said James Sanfilippo, president of Elk Grove Village, Ill.-based Clear Lam.
“It’s really just some integration work,” he said. “Sonoco recognizes the value of the team in place and the complexities of the disciplines we run,” he said.
Sonoco has about 22,000 employees, including 400 at Clear Lam, Sanifilippo said.
