Faison, N.C.-based Southern Produce Distributors Inc. paired up with Asheville, N.C.-based The Hop Ice Cream Cafe to make Carolina Covington Cheesecake ice cream, and Southern Exposure attendees can get a taste March 3.
The flavor commemorates Stewart Precythe, former Southern Produce president and owner, and the company’s employees and growers, according to a news release. Precythe died April 20 last year.
The Hop roasts Southern Produce sweet potatoes and adds them to a cream base with citrus and ginger, then swirls in toasted and salted butter pecans and pieces of the cafe’s Italian cheesecake, according to the release.
The flavor was first served at Kelley and Anna Marie Precythe’s wedding on New Year’s Eve, according to the release.
Southern Produce will exhibit and sample the ice cream in Booth 421 at the Southeast Produce Council’s Southern Exposure.
