Grand Rapids, Mich.-based SpartanNash has selected as its new president and CEO Tony Sarsam, who was most recently the CEO at Borden Dairy Co. and before that was CEO of Irwindale, Calif.-based produce industry company Ready Pac Foods.
At Borden Dairy, Sarsam “led business growth and positive trends in a challenging industry,” including taking the company through a successful restructuring, according to a news release. During his tenure at Ready Pac Foods, Sarsam oversaw a 60% increase in revenue in less than five years with a focus on innovation and service, per the release.
Earlier in his career, Sarsam spent more than 20 years at PepsiCo, and he also spent time working for Nestlé.

Sarsam will assume the president and CEO role and join the board of directors Sept. 21. Eidson will continue in his role as chairman of the board and will be executive chairman for 30 days to facilitate a smooth transition with Sarsam, per the release.
SpartanNash distributes to retailers throughout the U.S. and around the world, and the company operates 155 supermarkets, mostly under the banners Family Fare, Martin’s Super Markets, D&W Fresh Market, VG’s Grocery and Dan’s Supermarket.
