Wenatchee, Wash.-based Stemilt Growers is urging retailers to get a jump on promo planning for 2018 by featuring Pink Lady apples for Valentine’s Day and as the apple of the month in February.

“February, but specifically Valentine’s Day, is the best time for Pink Lady apple promotions,” Brianna Shales, Stemilt communications manager, said in a news release. 

“During this time of the year we see a surge of sales, as the variety is the perfect fit for the holiday. The coloring, branding and flavor profile all fit the theme.” 

According to retail scan data from Nielsen, retail volume of Pink Lady apples spikes in February, with 6.3% of total apple category sales coming from the variety in February 2016, according to the release.

“The Pink Lady is a popular variety with high sugars and high acids, and February is an ideal time to start pushing this apple at retail,” Shales said in the release. 

Stemilt offers the variety in branded 5-pound pouch bags, and in 3-pound pouch bags through its Lil Snappers kid-sized apple program, under its Artisan Organics and Artisan Organics Lil Snappers label, according to the release. Pop-up display bins are also available.
