Limoneira Co. opens Vietnam office
Santa Paula, Calif.-based grower-shipper Limoneira Co. recently opened a Southeast Asian regional sales office in Vietnam, said Alex Teague, CEO.
He said the company also has initiated a strategic joint venture and land acquisition in Argentina and added another 2,000 solar modules on a roof of one packinghouse to go with Limoneira’s other six solar projects.
The new solar array will reduce 86,830 tons of carbon dioxide over a 25-year period, Teague said.
Wonderful boosts summer citrus support
Los Angeles-based The Wonderful Co.’s Wonderful Citrus, which grows and ships out of California and Texas, now has four sales offices capable of selling its summer programs, including those two states, as well as Florida and New Jersey, said Chris Cockle, senior director of imports at Wonderful Citrus.
Wonderful Citrus also has additional pick-up locations that will help serve the Central, Southeast and Northeast regions, in addition to existing location in California and Texas, he said.
“During the winter, we have been diligently building our supplier program to provide us quality and consistent supply to meet the increasing demand we are seeing at retail,” Cockle said.
“We have essentially expanded all of our summer varieties, including specialty items, such as cara caras.”
After a successful test of Wonderful’s Halos-branded mandarins last year, the company will expand the program this summer, testing in new regions, Cockle said.
Wonderful also has replaced its lime packing line in Veracruz, Mexico, enhancing its grading/sizing technology for its persian lime supply chain, he said.
“The technology implemented has superior ability to sort out defects specific to the limes (such as stylar end rot), increases accuracy and consistency of sizing, increases capacity in the facility by 40% and is fully compliant with the most stringent food-safety protocols applicable for limes,” Cockle said.
Wonderful also has some packaging adjustments coming in the summer, Cockle said.
“We will be releasing refreshed packaging this summer for mandarins, lemons and navels,” he said.
“The new design is a fresh look at summer citrus, designed to be bright and vibrant, appealing to consumers looking for something fresh and clean.”
