Syngenta is introducing a purple-skinned cocktail tomato, called YOOM, to North American growers.

The selectively bred tomato is being introduced through brand campaigns after having success in European markets, according to a news release.

“Healthy and tasty in just two bites, each YOOM tomato holds higher levels of anthocyanins, compared to regular tomatoes,” Jeremie Chabanis, Syngenta value chain lead, said in the release. “The higher levels of anthocyanins give it the distinctive purple skin color.”

Anthocyanins are believed to help aid against health issues such as high blood pressure, diabetes and inflammation, according to the release.

YOOM tomato growth is in full swing in northern Europe, according to the release.
