Bite-sized potato marketer Tasteful Selections LLC is adding more capacity to meet consumer demand.
Having expanded three times since coming to market, the Arvin, Calif.-based company — a joint venture of RPE, CSS Farms and Plover River Farms Alliance, Inc. — is adding 148,000 square feet of cold storage and seed processing to its now-418,000-square-foot facility, according to a news release. Construction is expected to be complete on the new addition in early September.
“The amount of success we have experienced with Tasteful Selections is unprecedented,” Russell Wysocki, president and CEO of RPE Inc., said in the release. “Because of the constantly increasing consumer demand, the recent expansions to our facility in Arvin, California, was needed to help us meet the needs and fill the orders of all our customers. With this expansion, we are excited that in addition to our facility expansion our product line will be expanding as well.”
Consumer demand has fueled the expansion, the company said. The bite-size potato category has expanded from about 3% of retail potato sales in 2010 to nearly 18% today, according to the release.
Before the latest expansion, the company had up-sized its capacity more than once to market more small potatoes.
Outgrowing its original facility several years ago, Tasteful Selections built a 200,000-square-foot facility in 2015. The company has since added 70,000 square feet of capacity for an additional quality control room and cold storage, according to the release.
