Equipment was still arriving at the new plant in late October, and Fox estimated the project’s cost at $7 million.

Lone Star Citrus adds citrus processing

Mission, Texas-based Lone Star Citrus Growers is expanding the use of its grapefruit juicing plant, which opened in 2016, said Trent Bishop, sales manager.

“We’re still getting our juice plant up and running. This year, we’ll be doing grapefruit peel oil extract,” he said.

The process provides another use for Lone Star’s so-called “elimination” fruit, Bishop said.

The oil is used for flavoring in beverages, as well as for fragrances, cleaners or other products, Bishop said.
