Michel Picandet is the new executive vice president and head of Tomra Food, which designs and makes fresh produce sorting and grading equipment.

Picandet oversees the company’s Tomra Food, Compac and BBC Technologies brands, according to a news release. He is based at the company’s headquarters in Belgium.

Before joining Tomra, he was with Tetra Pak, as global and managing director since 2013. He has also headed Sidel’s Life Cycle Management division.

Stefan Ranstrand, president and CEO of Tomra, said Picandet has strong experience in the food/beverage industry, with a background in capital equipment and related services.

“I am confident that under his leadership, the Tomra Food team will continue to build on our three pillars of technical leadership, food trust and digital transformation, in order to achieve a more circular economy and safeguard the future of food,” Ranstrand said in the release.

Picandet will be at the Fruit Logistica fresh produce expo in Berlin, where Tomra has scheduled a press conference at 4 p.m. Feb. 5.
